Rina De Kyiv is a visual artist working across moving image and performance.
Her practice begins with an attraction to architecture as an image, a structure and a living residue of time.
Working primarily with modernist and rationalist environments, she treats buildings not as subjects to be documented, but as spaces to be entered, inhabited and physically reimagined.
Through short moving-image works, performances and live actions, Rina places her own body in direct relation to architecture. The body becomes a temporary architectural element: it merges with façades, disappears into structures, imitates their forms or introduces an unexpected human presence into otherwise monumental spaces. These interventions often occupy the space between performance, image and happening, where it becomes unclear whether the body is observing the architecture or becoming part of it. Rina develops her works largely as a complete visual process: she selects the location, constructs the frame and action, performs within the image, directs the shooting and edits the final work herself, collaborating with others behind the camera when needed.
Her earlier works, produced in Kyiv, were rooted in Soviet modernist architecture and its complicated relationship with memory, ideology and personal experience. As her practice developed after moving to Europe, this interest expanded toward modernist and rationalist architecture across different historical and geographical contexts. Her works create temporary situations in which architecture is no longer simply inhabited by the body, but appears to absorb it.
Rina’s practice is situated between moving image, performance and conceptual intervention.
